2A- Bug List

Bug List

1.     When I try to throw something in the trash, miss, and have to get up and throw it out.
WHY it exists: Because I am lazy and don't want to get up. Also due to my poor throwing/aim skills. Additionally, because my trash can is very small, it makes throwing stuff in it harder. It is also lodged between my toilet and the sink in a corner, so it is in a hard area to throw trash in. Trashcans have a sharp rim which makes the trash fall the the ground if it touches just the rim.
2.     When I’m cooking and run out of an ingredient I need (eggs, seasoning, chicken).
WHY it exists: Because I didn't go grocery shopping or I used up the ingredients I needed (like when I make eggs in the morning). Also because I failed to read over the ingredient list beforehand and make sure I had enough of each ingredient.
3.     When I spill water when I’m drinking it (and get it all over myself).
WHY it exists: Cups need to be built better so this cannot happen. Also, because
4.     When my shoelace comes undone.
WHY it exists: Shoelaces cannot stay tied forever, they eventually come undone through use.
5.     When I walk outside and my hair becomes a frizzy mess (thanks Gainesville).
WHY it exists: Gainesville is in the swamp and is a very humid, rainy place. The air is never crisp or dry, and it makes hair poof up and become frizzy do to it's swampy nature.
6.     When I open up a pack of gum and see there’s nothing left.
WHY it exists: Gum companies only put around 14-18 pieces in each pack. This doesn't last long for an avid user and they need to be replaced constantly.
7.     When I forget my laptop charger when going to study.
WHY it exists: Laptops have a short battery life and constantly need charging. Also, the charger is a separate device from the computer, so it is another thing to be forgotten.
8.     When I order delivery and they give me the wrong order/forget sauces (like ranch).
WHY it exists: The delivery person/store may not read my small comments that ask for sides. Also they may not give it to me because they may charge extra for sauces.
9.     When Wi-Fi is slow.
WHY it exists: There may be many people using the same network as me, the network may be down, the weather might be bad, and tree may have fallen on a power-line.
10.  When I’m in bed and need to blow my nose.
WHY it exists: My tissue box isn't placed near my bed. I forget to blow my nose before getting into bed. I am in a comfortable position in bed and don't want to get up, so this is frustrating.
11.  Having to get out of bed to pee.
WHY it exists: Drank too much water before bed. Didn't pee before getting into bed. I am comfortable and do not want to get out of bed, so this is frustrating.
12.  When the water bottle mouthpiece stops working properly and no water comes out.
WHY it exists: Water bottle manufacturers don't build bottles to last or work effectively. They might not test out their products or use cheap resources to make them.
13.  When drivers cut me off.
WHY it exists: They are in a hurry and need to be in my lane to go faster. They do not see me and think they are safe to enter my lane. I cut them off earlier and they want to cut me off to get back at me.
14.  When people step on the back of my shoe.
WHY it exists: They do not see me and step on it accidentally. They are in a hurry and are walking faster than me
15.  When people spill their drinks on me in a bar.
WHY it exists: They are not paying attention and do not realize they are spilling their drink. They have been drinking too much and are being careless. They are standing too close to me.
16.  When my phone turns off on me (it constantly randomly turns off on me).
WHY it exists: Apple products stop working properly after awhile. Apple makes devices malfunction after a certain amount of years. They don't offer ways of fixing broken phones after the warranty is up.
17.  When I buy something on amazon and it doesn't come in two days.
WHY it exists: Due to weather conditions or the time I ordered my item, the item may be a little delayed in arriving in exactly two days. Also, my apartment may take an extra day to sort through all the packages.
18.  When I order something online and it almost fits perfectly but is a little large.
WHY it exists: The online site did not give sizes that I am use to or use their own sizes. I have grown or shrunk in size. The reviews on the clothing item were biased and untrue.
19.  When I cut open an avocado and it's rotten.
WHY it exists: Publix failed to throw out the rotten produce. The farmers shipped avocados a little too late into their ripeness. The avocado had a disease.

20.  When people make noises during exams (chewing, coughing, sniffling, etc).
WHY it exists: People have tics they feel the urge to complete in silent situations. this could be because of nerves and stress, and they might not realize they are doing this. They chew gum to make them not stressed, or cough because they are sick.

Reflection:
This assignment started out being easy and fun for me, because a lot of small things irritate me. I finished making my twenty "bugs" pretty fast, but then when I started doing the "WHY" part, I realized that a lot of my "bugs" were my fault or beyond my control. For example, one of my "bugs" was that it irritated me whenever I tripped on air. Clearly, this is not something I could change to prevent from happening and there really is no direct cause to this besides me just being clumsy. So, I had to edit some of my "bugs." I enjoyed this assignment because it was fun to think about all the small things that irritate me but I usually ignore to continue on with my life. When thinking about why these problems existed, it was interesting to see how some of them could possibly be avoided or improved. I feel that this exercise is good for someone going into entrepreneurship because a business owner must think about every detail, even the most minute ones, and make decisions about everything to ensure there are no problems.

Comments

  1. It was interesting to read the things that bug you. It was fun to find out that there are things that did not come up to my mind but now that I am reading them definitely bug me too. I agree with you that the "why" part was definitely the hardest part. It was also hard to admit to myself that there are many things that bother me but are out of my control and I cannot do anything to solve them. It is definitely a thought-provoking exercise and I would say mind-changing.

  2. I noticed many of your bugs are the smaller things in life that many of us don't usually think about as bugs but do bother us in our everyday lives. Some of the bugs you came up with are some that I would have never thought of and is really clever that you thought of these. I like how in your reflection you said that you had to make changes to the lost after you realized that some bugs can’t really be fixed, like you mentioned tripping on air that just happens sometimes.

  3. It's interesting how everyone chose relatively different bugs but the things listed would easily bug any of us. Also, as Lauren said above, you chose to discuss a lot of small bugs but it's the smaller ones that add up and occur most often. I can't believe i forgot to mention ordering clothes online! As an avid online shopper, i completely agree with you that it's extremely annoying when clothes don't fit quite right and worst of all when the quality fails my expectations.
