21A – Reading Reflection No. 2
1) The theme o this book explored entrepreneurism and how the creation and advancement of technology for consumers can have both good and bad repercussions.
2) This connects to what we learn and talk about in class because we are literally trying to create a product or service, which does not really exist as of now, for consumers in order to better society. We are trying to be entrepreneurs and have that entrepreneur mindset to create a better product or service for society. This book explores how these new pursuits can help our lives easier, but in contrast he also shows the dark side.
3) I would have students try to tally up the amount of good and bad effects new products or services can have on society, and then debate on whether it is ethically right to keep advancing technology.
4) My biggest surprise was that a man was able to make a gun with his 3D printer without needing a permit or registering it with the government. That is scary and it is just the beginning of 3D printing. Who knows what else is out there and what more could happen. Also, I had never considered just how bad these advancements could affect society, as we tend to only think about the positive affects and not think about what someone could do if they wanted to.
You never really listed what book you read so it took me awhile to figure out what book you were referring to in this assignment. However, it is clear that you were able to fully understand and analyze this book. I didn't read the book so it is hard for me to give you like proper feedback on your post. Yet, from what you wrote, I can tell that there is threats with 3D printing as it can be used to create a gun.
ReplyDeleteI do wish you mentioned the title of the book because it sounds interesting. When we think about technological advancements we're rarely think of the bad repercussions. Thus far, most tales of the faults in technology sound more like a science fiction movie (ex. I, Robot). But now as we realize technology can advance into things we never imagined possible, fears stir from the human use of the products.
ReplyDeleteI noticed you didn't put the title of book, I wish you did because I read your reflection without knowing the book. Although I didn't read this book i can get a good understanding of it from you what you said. Also what you found surprising, is surprising to me too because having a gun without the permit can be scary.
